We welcome over 100,000 visitors to Hexham Abbey every year, and our committed team of volunteers is vitally important to ensure that every one of those visitors enjoys their time with us. If you have some spare time, we feel sure that you will find volunteering at Hexham Abbey a very rewarding experience. We welcome volunteers from all walks of life, and need people with a variety of skills to undertake different roles, though we also offer training to help our volunteers do the best job possible, and to keep their skills up to date. Here are some examples of volunteer roles:
Are you outgoing and welcoming? You might be a perfect steward, welcoming visitors and showing them the selection of audio guides and guide books we offer.
Do you enjoy history? Do you have great communications skills? You might become an expert Guide, showing groups around the Abbey.
Retail experience and great people skills? Volunteering in the Abbey Gift Shop might be ideal for you.
A background in education? Enjoy dressing up and getting messy? You might be perfect for helping with school visits, or our new permanent exhibition, The BIG Story.
Lively and energetic, interested in people, and in food and drink? Working in our busy Refectory might be just the job for you!
