Hexham Abbey has been a place of solace and refuge for over 1,300 years, and welcomes people of all faiths and none to enjoy its beautiful architecture and atmosphere and to explore its fascinating history.

Opening Times:9:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Services & events permitting
Services:We would be delighted if you would join us at any of our services. We also welcome enquiries from groups about holding special services or using the Abbey’s pilgrimage prayers.
Donations:Entrance to the Abbey is free, however we rely on your generosity to help maintain this great building. We recommend a donation of £3 per person which helps directly to continue the life and work of our church.
Guided Tours:Guided tours for groups can be arranged by prior booking through the Abbey Administrator.
Visiting Groups:We are delighted to accommodate visiting groups and bus tours. All such visits should be booked in advance with the Abbey Administrator. Groups are encouraged to make a donation to support the work of the Abbey.
Saxon Crypt:The Crypt is opened twice each day at 11:00 a.m. & 3:30 p.m. when services and events allow.
Abbey Gift Shop:Guide books, postcards and a great selection of souvenirs and gifts are for sale in our Gift Shop. Open Monday to Saturday 10am -5pm and Sundays 11.30am-3pm
The Big Story:The Big Story is our hands-on, interactive exhibition to help you to discover more about the astonishing history of this remarkable Abbey. Open Monday-Saturday10am. – 4 pm and Sunday 11am-3pm.
The Refectory:The Refectory is open Monday to Saturday 9.30am-4.30pm and on Sunday from 11am -3pm for the sale of delicious home-cooked light meals and refreshments.
Toilets:Toilet facilities for Abbey visitors are adjacent to The Refectory and The Big Story exhibition.
Accessibility:There are wheelchair ramps in the Abbey so most of the space is accessible, however not the crypt, or the night stairs.
