Hexham is on the Newcastle – Carlisle railway operated by Northern Rail. Trains stop at Hexham twice every hour during the day. From the station, it’s a ten minute walk to the town centre and Abbey. Some of this walk is uphill.

Hexham is just off the A69. At the Bridge End roundabout, take the exit signposted to Hexham Town Centre (A6079). At the next roundabout take the second exit, then at a mini roundabout take the first exit. Follow the road round past the railway station. The road circles to the right. Take the first right turning into Wentworth Car park, which is the largest in Hexham. The Tourist Information Centre is located here, and a pedestrian walkway leads up a hill to the Market Square and Abbey.

If you want to avoid walking, you can drive right up to the Abbey. There are parking bays along Beaumont Street, and nearby Market Street also has parking bays and two small car parks.

There’s lots of free parking in Hexham, but visitors may need a parking disc to display in their car. These discs are available at a small charge from the Tourist Information Centre and most local shops. If you have a parking disc from elsewhere, you can use this in Hexham.
