The joyful sound of Hexham Abbey's bells is a familiar one in the town, whether they are being rung for Sunday services, or for practice on Thursday evenings. The dedicated team of bellringers, or Band, rings for weddings and occasional celebratory services, too.
Hexham Abbey has ten bells, the oldest of which dates back to 1742.

The bells are rung for Sunday services from 9.15am (before the 10.00am service) and at 5.30pm (before 6.30pm Choral Evensong). The Sunday evening ringing on the first Sunday of the month is usually a quarter peal attempt.
The Band practises on Thursday evenings, between 7.30 and 9.00, with Advanced Practices being held on the last Tuesday of the month, from 7.30pm.
